We will visit the charging post for electric vehicles at Hammarby Sjöstad and learn about and the environmental traffic planning in the living area of Hammarby Sjöstad.

We will visit the sewage treatment plant at Hammarby Sjöstadsverket, and take a closer look at the production of biogas out of the water cleaning process.

Hammarby Sjöstadsverket is a test- and demonstration facility owned by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The facility with the possibilities for tests, demonstration, analyses, etc. is used for education, including degree projects and collaboration with national and/or internationally scientists.

The activities at the facility contribute to more effective technologies/methods as well as to the implementation of new sustainable technologies/methods that reduce the climate impact and resource use in WWTP. Current activities include for example projects about increasing the biogas production by codigestion, disintegration and process control. Further the convertion of biomass to a variety of alternative fuels with help of gasification is investigated.

The facility consists of several different treatment lines for both wastewater and sewage sludge. As a typical research facility Sjöstadsverket can offer a real clutter of pipes and tanks, a noisy background and an accumulation of different equipment.

Hammarby Sjöstadsverk is established as a reference/demonstration facility and meeting point for Swedish wastewater purification technology that contributes to maintain and develop competences and skills in wastewater purification which leads to a substantial increase in the export of Swedish environmental technology.
