Pre-conference tour 2. Stockholm - Örebro
Unique biogas project and waste handling at Svenks Växtkraft AB in Västeras (including lunch)
The bus is leaving from "Stockholm Cityterminal" at 7am. The Stockholm City Terminal is very close to the central train station in Stockholm.
|
Svensk Växtkraft AB in Västeras is a biogas plant taking the technology one step further. It uses sorted household and catering waste, grease trap removal waste, and ley crops from 300 hectares as raw materials for the digester. The gas is upgraded to vehicle fuel, and used locally both for heavy and light-duty vehicles, as well as exported to other cities. The plant produces 23 GWh of biogas per year. In addition, 3 500 tons solid and 13 000 tons liquid bio-manure is produced. The plant is owned by the local energy and waste handling utilities, by the Farmer's union, and by 17 local farmers.
The plant is located at the waste treatment facility Gryta north of the city, run by VafabMiljö AB. This company is owned by several municipalities and deals with sustainable and environmentally sound handling of waste from house-holds and businesses. 14 000 tons of the organic waste per year is used as substrate in the biogas plant in Västeras. The source-separation of organic waste is voluntary in Västeras and yet 90% of the house-hold participate in the separation scheme. |

16.30-19.30 | Study Tours
Study tour 1 Local system for biogas renewable fuels for public transport etc. |
First stop
Visit to the new Örebro Biogas production plant started in October 2009. At the moment the biggest in Sweden with a capacity of 60 GWh or 6 MNm3 upgraded CBG.
The biogas is mainly produced from agricultural residues and crops and bi-products from food industry. The biogas is transported via pipeline to public filling stations and to the bus depot.
Parts of the production will be delivered to Stockholm, to support the growing biogas market there.
Second stop
Visit to sewage treatment plant Örebro, Skebäck where biogas is upgraded to vehicle fuel. The upgraded biogas is transported via pipeline to public filling stations.
Third stop
Bus depot in Örebro City. In October 2009 the diesel powered city busses in Örebro were replaced by 61 new MAN biogas driven buses. At the same time a new modern bus depot for urban and rural bus traffic was inaugurated. The depot includes compressor station, storage facilities for CBG and CNG. Länstrafiken(Responsible for public busses) and Swelink will inform about their work to lower green gas and other emissions from their fleets. Testing of RME, biogas, ecodriving etc. |
| Study tour 2
Eco2 Trainer-simulator for eco-driving training and green-award winning transport Company |
First stop
Traffic Center Scantec AB. A Center for education and training in road safety, environment, ecodriving etc. Ecodriving training can be done in an environmental friendly way using the ECO2-trainer simulator.
Second stop
ÖGS-bolaget (Schenker). A green-award winning transport company with long practical experience in energy efficient fleet management and individual follow up of the drivers driving behaviour. |
| Study tour 3 Planning efficient transportation in cities hosted by Örebro municipality |
Cycling or walking tour in Örebro city Host: The municipality of Örebro
How should our cities be developed to reduce traffic and create attractive environments for residents and visitors? Cycling or walking tour (depending on weather) to study and discuss successful and less successful examples of a medium-sized Swedish town. |
20:00 | DINNER at Örebro Castle
